Beginners Guitar
If you have decided you want to learn to play guitar, choosing a beginners guitar is an important step. You may not know a lot about the instrument so educate yourself before you commit to a purchase. First you need to decide whether you want to play acoustic or electric guitar. Acoustic guitars are bit more difficult to play, but there is no hassle with cords and amplifiers as with an electric guitar. Don’t worry, once you learn the basics, you can go into rock star mode.
Try to buy the best quality acoustic guitar you can afford. That doesn’t mean going to pawn shop and picking out one of poor quality. Your instrument is an investment and you can find something at a reasonable price that will serve you well. You can always upgrade once your skills have improved. Some of the best beginner guitars include the Seagull S6, Fender DG 85, Fender CD 1405, and Yamaha F 6700S. The seagull is a Canadian made model and slightly more expensive than the others, but the quality makes it worth the investment. You can probably find used guitars on many auctions sites, but it probably wiser to buy something you can see and try out.
If you have your heart set on an electric guitar, you will probably have to dig a little deeper. They are more expensive because you have to factor in the cost of an amplifier. On the upside, they are generally easier to play and you will notice improvement more quickly. If your preference is for more guitar oriented music, an electric guitar will probably be the better choice for you. Manufacturers often cut corners by using cheaper pickups and hardware, but these parts are easily upgraded. The Squier Fat Stratocaster is a good beginner’s guitar and it looks very much like the more expensive Fender Stratocasters, which is part of its appeal for the budding rock guitarist. The Epiphone 310 SG offers good value for the price as does the Yamaha Pacifica Series. They are reasonably well made and generally have high quality wood bodies. Perhaps the most famous electric guitar is the Les Paul and the Epiphone Les Paul II is a lower cost electric guitar marketed for beginners.
Just remember to choose a beginners guitar that is the best quality you can afford. If you practice hard, you will be upgrading to a fancier model in no time at all.
